How Much Does a Website Really Cost in Malaysia?

1 June 2026 · 6 min read

If you've been quoted three prices for 'the same website' and they don't even look close, you're not imagining it. I've seen RM300 promo packages and RM50,000+ custom builds both sold as 'a website for your business'. They're not remotely the same product.

Why the range is so wide

A RM300 site is usually a template with your logo and contact details dropped in: fast to produce, and priced accordingly. It can be a reasonable starting point if you genuinely just need a digital business card. What it isn't built to do is convert: the layout, copy, and structure are generic because they have to work for thousands of other businesses too.

A custom build costs more because the price includes actual thinking: how your specific customers browse, what makes them trust a business like yours, where they currently drop off. That's labour you're paying for, not just a template licence.

What actually moves the number

  • Custom design vs. template: a layout built around your business costs more than one reused across clients.
  • Page count and complexity: a 5-page brochure site is a different job from a 15-page site with enquiry systems wired up.
  • E-commerce: a real store (catalogue, checkout, payment) adds real scope, not just a 'shop' toggle.
  • Ongoing care: hosting, security, and updates are either bundled, billed later, or quietly left to you.

What I'd ask instead of 'how much'

Ask what happens after the deposit if you don't like the direction. Ask who's responsible when something breaks six months in. Ask whether the quote is fixed or grows once you're committed. The honest answer to those questions tells you more than the number on the invoice.

For what it's worth, my own pricing starts from RM1,500 for a focused first site and scales from there depending on scope. You can see the full breakdown on the pricing page, including exactly what's included at each tier.
